Taking our focus from Nigerian music to Nollywood, a new set of Nigerians are set to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences a.k.a The Oscars.
🤯 Funke Akindele Listed Among 397 Invited To Join Oscars
The Academy unveiled the list of invited members which consists of three hundred and ninety-seven potentials, and Nigerian actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele-Bello makes the list in the acting category for her record breaking movie, ‘Omo Ghetto: The Saga Movie.’
AMPAS claimed the chosen individuals include actors, casting directors, cinematographers, costume designers, directors, film editors, make artistes, hair stylists, and music executives in a lengthy statement detailing the invitees.
According to the statement, the decision was made based on professional qualifications and with a dedication to equity, inclusiveness, and representation.
Nigerian actor Daniel K. Daniel was also in the acting category for ‘The Fugitive’ and ‘A Soldier’s Story’, while Blessing Effiom Egbe got invited in the director’s list for ‘African Messiah’ and ‘Iquo’s Journal.’
According to reports, the new breakdown of the new invitees representing fifty-four countries is as follows, forty-four percent are women, thirty-seven percent are non-white and fifty percent are non-Americans.
Just so you know, if the new invitees honor the Academy’s call, they have the opportunity to participate in the Oscars nomination and winners voting process.
Funke Akindele-Bello, Daniel K. Daniel, and Blessing Effiom Egbe now joins the list of Nigerians who have been invited as members of the Academy.
Last year, The Academy admitted Ramsey Nouah Jr., Mo Abudu and U.S based director Andrew Dosummu into the class of 2021.
