American singer and actress Jennifer Hudson has made history as she has now joined the elite list of ‘EGOT’ winners with her recent win as a producer at the 75th annual Tony Awards for her movie ‘A Strange Loop’ which won in the ‘Best Musical’ category.
After winning a Tony Award Sunday for producing the hit Broadway musical “A Strange Loop,” Jennifer Hudson achieved EGOT status —meaning she has won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony Award in her career.
It was the final trophy she needed to achieve EGOT status. Hudson became the 17th person to win all four major awards.
Hudson joins the likes of John Legend, Whoopi Goldberg, Audrey Hepburn and Andrew Lloyd Webber.
A Strange Loop had 11 nominations – the most for any show – heading to Sunday night’s Tony Awards in New York City.
It took home awards for the best musical and best book for a musical categories.
Hudson won her first of the big four awards, an Oscar, for her role in 2007’s Dreamgirls.
She is a two-time Grammy winner, one for best musical theater album for “The Color Purple” in 2017 and another for best R&B album for her self-titled album in 2009.
She’s also a Daytime Emmy for executing producing the VR-animated film “Baba Yaga” which she co-produced and lent her voice to.
