R&B Singer R Kelly has been sentenced to 30 years in prison following a conviction in federal court last year on sex trafficking and racketeering charges.

“Only? Only 30? Was is only thirty? Was it one year per person? thirty is not enough for me”  Titi Dinamite of Wake Up Nigeria reacted.

Responding to her reaction, Mazino -Co Host Wake Up Nigeria’ said,

“But is just so unfortunate for someone with so much great talents because even if we know that he has done so much crime we still have to know that there is no more R Kelly songs on Radio and how much we have actually missed it.”

R Kelly was convicted last September in New York of racketeering and sex trafficking crimes.

He had faced years of allegations and the judge on Wednesday said he had an “indifference to human suffering”.

A few women took the witness stand to face Kelly prior to his punishment.

A woman only known as Angela referred to the performer as a Pied Piper who “increased in evil” with each new victim, while other unnamed witnesses claimed he had crushed their spirits.

“I literally wished I would die because of how you made me feel,” said one.

Kelly, who was wearing prison khakis and dark glasses, chose not to respond to the verdict and made no comment of his own.

Given the nature of Kelly’s crimes and “the need to safeguard the public from further crimes,” federal prosecutors had suggested that he get a sentence of at least 25 years in prison.

However, his attorneys requested a sentence of 10 years or less, which is the mandatory minimum for his crime.

They presented Kelly as growing up in a poor and violent home and being subjected to sexual abuse at an early age.

They said that he would appeal since he was “devastated” by the verdict.
