LET’S TALK!! Will Asake’s One Style Singing Affect Him In Any Way?

YBNL’s latest star, Asake, is a talented and unique artist, to say the least.

While what he’s doing is not in any way new to the industry, it’s not exactly the popular thing either. Some critics have described Asake’s style as neo-fuji because of how it sounds like an interpolation of Fuji with Afrobeats.

To be honest, there is no limit to where something that unique can take him. YBNL just needs to market him well. That plus, hard work, consistency, and doing the right collaborations, of course.

But fans are beginning to worry that perhaps the fact that he’s in love with that style could pose a big problem. It’s this little economics thing called diminishing marginal utility. That is, you like it the first time and you like it more the second time, but by the time it gets to the ninth or tenth time, the excitement is gone. And after that, you may even begin to dislike it.

The idea is, that if Asake continues recycling the same beats and doing almost the same stuff, sooner or later, people are going to stop feeling him.

This has become a topic of conversation recently when Asake shared the snippet of his next single after his collab with Spinall, “Palazzo.” The song, indeed, has the same style as both “Sungba” and the recent “Palazzo,” and people have been kind enough to point that out even before the song gets its official release.

To be fair, it’s way too early to say maybe Asake is going to wanna stick to one style and milk it or not. But if that’s what he plans on doing, will it work for him like it has worked for artists like Zinoleesky who just do the same thing over and over?

I think it won’t. But then, I also don’t think Asake is not going to do other styles. His EP is a testament to his versatility, after all. But what do y’all think about this topic.
