American rapper Missy Elliot has broken another record, as all six of her studio albums are now certified [RIAA] Platinum or higher, the most among female rappers.
Reacting to this massive feat via her Twitter account, Missy Elliot replied to the handle that broke the news writing, “This is a huge milestone! no matter how long it took to get here, I am here & I am humbly grateful to all my sisters in hip-hop, y’all keep doing y’all thang & shining”.
Following a Twitter thread that listed all of her achievements, Missy Elliot wrote,
“God knows I am humbly grateful for this thread below & the reason I always say that because no matter how much talent an artist has, it’s because of the fans support that history can be made! love each of you & @atlanticrecords @elektrarecords”
Over the past two years, Elliott has been given major awards for her influential and decade-spanning career.
In 2019, she became the first female rapper to be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame and was named the recipient of the MTV VMAs Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award for her groundbreaking music videos, and in 2021, she was honoured with her own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
