This topic comes off from Twitter. Popular Twitter influencer, Dr. Olufunmilayo, addresses those wearing turtlenecks in Nigeria. He wrote,
“People, that wear turtlenecks inside the hot sun in Nigeria, you know your head is not correct right? That’s not fashion. That’s foolishness.
Even if you want to copy “abroad people”, at least apply sense. Nobody wears a turtleneck here in hot summer. It’s reserved for winter/cold weather. Why are you wearing a turtleneck, suffocating yourself and sweating like a goat inside the hot sun? What is wrong with you guys?
But on a serious note, If you don’t have AC house, AC car, AC office, pls don’t. Wearing a turtleneck in the hot sun is just plain stupid. I’m sorry. You can’t wear a turtleneck then trek for hours in the sun, enter a danfo and start using a hand fan. Femi, are you not mad bayi?
Forget all the jokes guys. You may not know it but the negative impact of heat on your health is profound. You are inside the sun. You are wearing a turtleneck. You are sweating like a goat. That excessive heat can make you dehydrated, restless, tired, exhausted and give you headaches.
This is why some of you have heat rashes and also suffer from heat exhaustion. You get home from work and you just have exhausting headaches all evening. The next day you have entered the turtleneck again suffocating yourself once more. Chinedu, why are you doing this to yourself?
Same for people wearing jackets, head warmers and hoodies inside the sun. Is the drip worth the heat and torture? How do you endure all of that suffering just to “look cool” even at the expense of your health? Or tell me Ope dear why are you wearing a winter jacket in Ikorodu pls?
Anyway in conclusion, Pls let’s dress appropriately for the weather. That’s the aim of this thread. Please leave the turtlenecks for now. Sun dey outside. Try and breathe. Take it easy. Don’t die young. If it’s hot, wear something appropriate. It’s for your own good. Thank you!”
