Linda Osifo, award-winning actress talks about the racial discrimination she faced as a black woman in Canada.
The award winning actress broke into the Nollywood scene in 2012. Since then she has been nominated for best actress in supporting roles and has also won awards as a lead role in two movies.
She shares her experiences so far as an actress in Nigeria and the hills she has had to climb.
She talks about how she has Managed to thrive despite this difficulties.
Speaking on TVC’s breakfast show, Wake Up Nigeria, Linda said; “ The patience and the drive to win has kept me here. Be yourself it will help you, that is the most effortless thing you need.”
How do we thrive in Nigeria by being ourselves ?
“You have to believe in your ability,that is what takes you far, if you believe you can do it you will definitely thrive.”
We know how blacks are being treated all around the world. Did this affect you career when you were in Canada?
“I almost bleached when I was missing roles due to my color. Coming back to Nigeria my skin was appreciated, it made me value my skin, I only wish to get darker now”
“I had a hard time adjusting to the Nigerian culture, it was hectic and I felt like going back to Canada” Linda added.
