Nutrition- The immune system and covid-19.

One thing that has become a topic recently during health conversations, is “how to boost your immune system.”

The year 2020 hit the world with a dreaded virus – covid-19 virus which was described; a global pandemic.

Since the era of covid-19, people have payed more attention to boosting their immune systems. How can one boost his/her immune system? What are the nutrients needed to boost your immune system?

Conversation with a Nigerian nutritionist, Temitope Alao-Sanni on on TVC’s breakfast show, was quite helpful.

She identified specific kind of fruits to eat to build a strong immune system.

“Life starts from nutrition. Your hair, your teeth is calcium – it’s nutritious, your body, your blood, everything is nutrition. Nutrition is actually very important.”

“All fruits are totally important, but fruits high in vitamin C will help your immune system.”

Some of the fruits mentioned by the nutritionist, are;

  1. Apples.
  2. Local Fruits.
  3. Citrus filled fruits.
  4. Vegetables ( Cabbage & carrots)

 

During the pandemic lemon, ginger, turmeric and garlic became the go to immune builders.  Wake Up Nigeria’s host, Tope asked if it’s important to continue with these natural immune boosters.

In response, Temitope Alao-Sanni said;

“yes, they should be part of  our daily routine. They are known as antioxidants and they help you build a very strong immune system.”
