In a trending video that made it way to social media recently one that captured the moment a house help was apprehended after stealing a couple of items from her boss’s store somewhere in Magodo. Following the video, some social media users began showing sympathy for the house help and some offered to give her a job. However, media personality, DaddyFreeze, took to his social media platform to condemn the sympathy move by some Nigerians, he did this by sharing a post where he described the lady as being greedy and stated that “In a world of social media, if you really don’t want to be humiliated publicly, DON’T STEAL, simple!”
He wrote:
“Many people are sympathetic towards her because she is poor. Let’s address the facts of the story here, she was allegedly caught stealing!

She should consider herself extremely fortunate that this happened in a high brow area like Magodo. IF this had happened in the area I grew up in Ibadan, she would have been burnt. Many were burnt for a lot less (of course I do not support jungle justice and other barbaric forms of addressing social issues), however, bringing this to the public domain can prevent future employers from falling victims.

Also, public shaming is employed as a deterrent in many civilized countries.

I’m amazed to see some people here are even offering to give her jobs, really?? You want give work to an alleged thief, without first addressing the root issue? Greed?
–
She is probably earning more than many honest people who refuse to steal. In a world of social media, if you really don’t want to be humiliated publicly, DON’T STEAL, simple!
