The Osun State Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola has denied killing protesters contrary to reports on the internet.
Recall on Saturday, October 19, the governor of the state was said to have been attacked in Osogbo, the state capital. The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Osun State, Ismail Omipidan revealed that the Governor’s attackers at the #EndSARS protest on Saturday, were hired political thugs and not youth protesting against police brutality in the State Capital.
Narrating what transpired that day, CPS Ismail Omipidan said he returned from Lagos with the Governor when he was going through his Facebook feed and saw a video of protesters, with a known face of the protest Ayo Ologun who requested the governor come address them.
According to the CPS, after speaking with Ayo Ologun on the phone, he was assured that the protest venue was safe for the Governor to address protesters. The Governor and his entourage set out for the protest venue, and on getting there, the governor was asked by Bakare, an associate to former presidential aspirant, Sowore to apologise to the protesters for coming late.
He stated the governor agreed to Bakare’s demand, and surprisingly, Bakare asked the Governor to scrap the O-yes scheme: Osun Youth Empowerment Scheme (O-YES) which was not in anyway related to the EndSARS protest. CPS Ismail Omipidan said the Governor kept his cool, but was attacked suddenly with stones, and some thugs came out with cutlass and other weapons.
He said they tried to evacuate the governor from the scene, without hurting anybody. WATCH VIDEO:
