A medical doctor has advised that patients with Cyst must avoid drinking alcohol or smoking before treatment.
General Practitioner with keen interest in public health, Doctor Kuti Olatunde gave the admonition during his session on the health talk segment on TVC’s Wake Up Nigeria.
According to him, an ovarian cyst can be harmful when it gets bigger in the ovary. The bigger it becomes, the more dangerous it gets. Therefore, quick intervention is key.
Doctor Kuti further gave an insight on the disease:
“Ovarian cyst is when you have fluid inside the ovary because you are not supposed to have fluid in there. Some people call it an Ovarian mass, but a cyst is different from a mass. A mass can either be a cyst or a tumor and a cyst is different from a tumor. When you say Ovarian Mass, you have taken both of them together. Anybody can have a cyst but it is usually found in women in their reproductive age. It is not usually harmful when it is still small, it becomes problematic when it becomes bigger and starts giving symptoms’’. When the ovary gets bigger, there are various complications that can occur. The ovary can twist or burst due to its size. An ovarian cyst can also cause infertility”, he said.
