The General Manager of The Lagos state Emergency Management Agency [LASEMA], OLUFEMI Oke Osanyitolu, has revealed that the gas explosion that has killed 3 people in Afariogun Street, AJao Estate in Lagos State, was caused as a result of refilling gas in a small gas shop.
Osanyitolu stated this during his reaction to the incident on TVC flagship program, Your VIEW on Wednesday, 29th July, 2020.
He said GAS SHOP OWNERS are to be blamed for the explosion, as they don’t take precautions.
“There are laid down rules by SAFETY Commissions in the state to regulate operations of such businesses, but Gas Sellers won’t follow the rules, which is affecting our social economy’’.
In RESPONSE to the General Manager, the ladies of Your VIEW urged relevant agencies to mandate gas Operators to relocate from residential areas, as a way of reducing damages when such incident occurs.
The incident which happened during an off-loading of gas from a supplier to a seller, led to the loss of lives and burnt down 9 shops, 3 vehicles. According to the LASEMA Boss, 3 bodies have been recovered from the scene.
He appealed to the people of Lagos state to abide with the safety commissions put in place by LASEMA and LASEPA, stating that defaulters would be dealt with severely.
“Our social economy is getting affected because they are not putting safety precautions in place.”
