Following the recent development with #FisayoSoyombo who has been declared wanted. Journalist, Kadaria Ahmed with the ladies of #YourViewOnTVC discuss ‘The future of Journalism: Risks & Threats’,
With the recent on-going saga about #KeepFisayoSafe: Is it even possible for us to practice true investigative journalism in Nigeria? #FisayoSoyombo who was on #YourViewTVC last week to tell us how he spent days as an inmate in Ikoyi Prison to track corruption in Nigeria’s justice system, has been declared wanted.- Morayo
This is a democracy but the body language of the govt in the past years has shown zero tolerance for criticism, we are as good as having a military system right now in this country! – Tope
Kadaria Ahmed pointed out that “as much as we do not expect the Government to arrest journalists, we also have to garner the trust of the people in the kind of News we disseminate. Away from Fisayo, there are lots of bloggers spreading false news.”
‘For crying out loud, where is the civil society in all of these?’- Morayo
‘We also, whether we like it or not, we need to upgrade our standards and do journalism that could stand up to scrutiny.’- Kadaria Ahmed
‘Every right under the constitution is limited, the right to press freedom also, is qualified. What I expect the govt to do in a case like #Fisayo’s, is to investigate further. If the journalist’s report is eventually unsubstantiated, then we know he is in trouble.’ – Nyma
