Breastfeeding also known as nursing, is the feeding of babies and young children with milk from a woman’s breast. Health professionals recommend that breastfeeding begin within the first hour of a baby’s life and continue as often and as much as the baby wants.
This important bonding factor was discussed on today’s episode of Your View, to commemorate World Breast Feeding Month. Keeping in mind, the myth that says: a well breast fed child is more intelligent than the one that is not, it is expedient to know that breastfeeding has been proven to be beneficial to both the mother and child, it builds the body immunity of the child and stimulates good growth.
The myth about intelligence can be debated but some women who didn’t breast feed their children at a tender age, have proven that their children aren’t dull and are equally as smart as breastfed children.
Women are encouraged to breastfeed for 2 years or a year at least. There are ways to it as mothers are not expected to breastfeed throughout the 2 years but should do it exclusively for the first 6 months then could start mixing formulas for the child.
There are women who don’t want to breastfeed as they could hire a breast feeder rather than using formula that lack adequate nutrients.
Pain comes with breastfeeding and it is a natural thing but the mother outgrows it after sometime. Fathers play an important role as they could provide a suitable environment for their wives to breastfeed, show care and encourage them. “Breastfeeding is work and human right to the child”.
