Updates on Baba Suwe - TAMPAN denies abandoning actor

TVCONTINENTAL has gathered the latest update on reports concerning the health condition of comic Yoruba actor, Babatunde Omidina, popularly known as Baba Suwe.

The comic actor has been said to be reportedly dying without anyone to help.

Yesterday a media personality who disclosed this report, revealed this on grounds of anonymity.

In an interview, the anonymous broadcaster claimed that actor, Baba Suwe is terribly sick and was at the verge of dying.

This is not the first time this revelation has been made. In the year 2016, Yomi Fabiyi, a Nigerian filmmaker, also made this statement.

He had made this disclosure in a bid to pull the hands of other actors to help.

However, this undisclosed broadcaster who is coming out to make a fresh statement has particularly revealed that colleagues of Baba Suwe have not come out to help him in any way.

The OAP took to ranting about how selfish most actors are and how they never care for fellow filmmakers in need. Against this backdrop, the anonymous individual called out the names of several veteran acts.

He mentioned the likes of Jide Kosoko, Dele Odule, Mr Latin and Oga Bello. Then he accused them of not helping their colleague.

“Baba Suwe is a good man. None of his people can say he is bad. And they are not helping him not because he behaved badly to them. They are not helping him because they care only about their family. That’s the nature of our actors, there is no exception. Imagine the caliber of people I told you I had spoken to about Baba Suwe’s case, yet none looks his way yet. But if, God forbid, he dies from the problem, they would be all over the place eulogizing his qualities which they helped killed by their lack of empathy.”

However, the Theatre Arts and Motions Pictures Producers Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN) on Monday denied abandoning one of its members, Babatunde Omidina, in the hospital.

Speaking with reporters in Abeokuta on Monday, the National President of the association, Bolaji Amusan, said the report was sponsored by mischief-makers to discredit TAMPAN.

Amusan, popularly known as Mr Latin, said the association had been taking care of the veteran actor’s medical bills since 2017, under the administration of immediate-past President, Dele Odule.

He said, “I have just instructed the Lagos State executive of the association to check on him (Baba Suwe) to ascertain his health progress.”

“I can tell you that we have not abandoned Baba Suwe, as well as any of our members, as being speculated in some quarters by mischief-makers.”

Amusan revealed they had designed a new policy to help members of the association.
