Former Chelsea and Ivory Coast top striker, Didier Drogba ended his football career in defeat as Phoenix Rising lost to Louisville City in the USL Cup final.
The 40 year old led his team, Phoenix Rising – which he part-owned to the final of U.S. football’s second tier. Unfortunately, his team lost.
The defeat marks the end of Drogba’s trophy-filled career.
The Ivorian had annouced his plans to retire back in March, calling an end to a career that has also seen spells at Le Mans, Marseille, Shanghai Shenhua, Galatasaray and the Montreal Impact.
The 40-year-old who scored 10 goals in 14 games during his debut season in USA’s second tier before netting five goals in nine regular-season games this term, still bows out of football with an impressive collection of winners’ medals.
During his remarkable 20-year playing career, Didier won four Premier League titles, four FA Cups, three League Cups, two Premier League Golden Boots and, of course, the UEFA Champions League with Chelsea. Away from Stamford Bridge, he also won the Turkish Super Lig, the Turkish Cup, Turkish football’s Player of the Year award, and two African Player of the Year awards.
