Nigerian singer Davido has won the Best International Act at the 2018 BET Award. The event took place at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California.
The singer won the award on Sunday, June 24, 2018 during the show held in Los Angeles, California. He beat artistes like Tiwa Savage, Cassper Nyovest, Dadju, Stormzy, Distruction Boyz, Fally Ipupa, J Hus, Niska all nominated under the same category (Best International Act).
Davido on receiving the award thanked his fans and listeners in Nigeria and added that Africa as a continent “has been so blessed”.
He further went on to talk about the impact of African culture on the world and said to the audience at the Microsoft theatre,
“I’m telling you guys — come to Africa, eat the food, wear the clothes,”
“Let’s collaborate, everybody. Let’s collaborate, man,” he said, specifically mentioning J Cole.
Though excited about the win, Davido in his acceptance speech sent out condolences to D’banj over the loss of his son.
Davido is the first African artiste to receive an award in this category on the same stage with their foreign counterparts. However this win makes it the second for the multiple award winner, the first was in 2014.
