Celebrity guest of the week: British-Nigerian actor John Boyega

Simple smart and jovial is a short definition of our Celebrity of the Week.

British-Nigerian actor, John Adedayo B. Adegboyega, 27 (John Boyega) popular for playing Finn in the 2015 film Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the seventh film of the Star Wars series, and its 2017 sequel Star Wars: The Last Jedi is a force to reckon with in the Hollywood industry.

John Boyega is one actor that doesn’t forget his root. The actor who’s currently on a media tour in Nigeria, was a guest on TVC’s Entertainment show, #WakeUpNigeria. He revealed that he decided to invest in his production company. According to him, he’s working on doing something big in the Nigeria movie industry. The actor also talked about other projects and what’s he has searched for since his visit to Nigeria. Watch video below:

Investment

UpperRoom Productions (also known as Upperroom Entertainment Limited) is a film production company created by John Boyega and British talent agent Femi Oguns.

UpperRoom Productions was established in January of 2016.Presumably, one of its first production projects was the 2018 sequel to Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim.

The actor working on a project recently, proved that he’s a big fan of African music.  He announced that he was making use of his favourite song from Wizkid in his latesr SciFi movie, Pacific Rim Uprising.

His initiative of putting this together got a lot of people excited and the anticipation was high.

In a chat with MTV Base VJ, Ehis, Boyega opened up on why he chose to include Nigerian sound in the movie. The actor revealed that he has always been a big fan of Wizkid’s music, so he picked one of his favourite as a soundtrack for the movie.

Investing in Nolllywood

John Boyega expressed his willingness to invest in Nollywood to further boost the movie sector.

Speaking to newsmen on the 5th of April, 2018, Boyega said;

I intend to tour most parts of Nigeria for seven months to sort out few things and get inspiration for the movie. I am yet to find a writer to depict my idea of the movie; I’ll be staying a bit longer to find a writer.

The actor revealed that this is a chance to merge Hollywood with Nollywoood, in bringing genuine and most important stories to light but captured in a professional way.

The star wars superstar also stated the planned budget for the movie saying, we are deciding what makes sense budget-wise; we’re probably looking at a budget of $20-$25 million dollars.

The actor who is currently on a media tour, is promoting his latest Hollywood movie, Pacific Rim Uprising, which has soundtrack of Wizkid’s “Daddy yo”.

John Boyega was born into the family of Samson Adegboyega, a Pentecostal minister and his mom, Abigail (née Aboderin), who works with the disabled. He has two elder sisters, Blessing and Grace.

Though the actor has spent most of his life outside Nigeria, he still eats Nigerian native food. Speaking with Yomi and Titi of #WakeUpNigeria, John boyega said his favourite meal is jollof but since his visit to Nigeria, he has been in search of ‘Amala’
