American actor, producer, rapper and comedian, Will Smith recounts how he made a movie titled ‘Fela’ with his wife, Jay Z and Beyonce.
Will Smith who is obviously a fan of Fela, wrote:
May 20, 2010. We all produced a play together on Broadway called FELA. It was about the late Nigerian Artist / Activist Fela Anikulapo Kuti. We were nominated for 11 Tony Awards!!! Look up FELA. His life was DEEP! #tbt

The Drunk In Love singer’s mum Tina Lawson shared a video from inside the bash showing all her friends shouting: “Happy Carter Push Party!”
In the video she shared music playing in the background is no other than our very own Nigerian multi-instrumentalist and Afrobeat legend, Fela Anikulapo Kuti’s music.

Beyonce’s song writer, The-Dream, revealed in an interview that he recorded an entire, unreleased album with Beyonce prior to 2011 LP 4, inspired by Fela. According to the producer behind hits “Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)” and “Run The World (Girls),” the project was inspired by Nigerian Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti.
In 2009, Jay-Z, Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith officially signed on as co-producers of “Fela!,” a musical about Nigerian Afrobeat pioneer Fela Anikulapo-Kuti.
