Nassarawa state government suspends three staffs for flogging students

Earlier this week, A video of teachers flogging their students mercilessly went viral online (watch here). Three staffs involved in the act have been suspended by the Nassarawa state government.

The principal, the compound master and the staff who posted the video of the punishment on the social media were suspended till further notice.

The state commissioner of Education, Ahmed Tijani confirmed yesterday January 18th, that the staffs are now on suspension and further investigation would lead to a final decision.

He said:

“Corporal punishment is not permissible in our public schools from now henceforth”. “If you watch the video you will understand what I mean, is completely cruelty to female students especially beaten on the back. We suspended the principal, compound master and a teacher because the class teacher posted the video clip on net.”

We have constituted a committee to investigate their matter and report back to the ministry in the next one week, to enable the ministry to take appropriate action”.

He added that the ministry had also written to all public schools informing the managements of the various schools on the ban on corporal punishment.
