Mohamed Salah wins CAF African Footballer of the Year [See full list]

Egyptian Mohamed Salah was crowned ‘African Player of the Year 2017 at the CAF Awards held last night in Accra, Ghana.

The 25-year old, who plays for English side Liverpool beat his Liverpool team-mate Sadio Mane and Borussia Dortmund’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Salah is the first Egyptian to win the most prestigious individual honour in African football. He polled 625 points, against 507 from Mane whilst Aubameyang finished a distant third with 311 points.

The Egyptian winger played an important role at both the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations, as Egypt reached the final and qualified for their first World Cup since 1990.

Salah who is also the premier league second top scorer with 17 goals, has won the two biggest personal accolades for African footballers, the BBC Player of the Year and now the CAF Player of the Year in the space of a few weeks.
