Argentina legend has urged Real Madrid to offload Gareth Bale and replace him with Kylian Mbappe.
Bale cost Madrid a world-record fee of £85.3m when he signed from Tottenham in 2013, but has lost form this season through injury.
Real Madrid passed up the opportunity to sign Kylian Mbappe ahead of PSG because of Cristiano Ronaldo’s presence at the club, Diego Maradona claims.
Mbappe, 18, helped fire Monaco to the Ligue 1 title last season and was linked with several clubs including Real, PSG, Barcelona and Manchester City as a result.
Maradona made his feelings clear in an interview with Spanish newspaper AS when he said: “I told Florentino [Perez, Real president] to sign Mbappe but he told me had Cristiano Ronaldo.”
Asked where signing Mbappe would leave Bale, Maradona said: “They should sell Bale, they should give him away. I expect Florentino wouldn’t, but maybe he can do a deal, and let Bale go to AC Milan or Inter.
“They have to sign Mbappe, for me he’s the next big thing, he could overtake many players.”
Goal revealed in June that Real held talks with Monaco to sign Mbappe , 18, before the teen sensation secured a move to PSG on an initial loan with the obligation to make the move permanent for £166 million.
