TVC E. Yeni Kuti a co presenter on YourView TVC said during the show today that she does not think any one will want to
join the Nigerian Police Force as their total security seems not to be protected. She made this statement following a bank robbery in Owerri. The Nigerian police force few weeks ago reported the case of Sergeant Chukwudi Iboko who confronted a group of armed robbers that attacked a Zenith Bank branch in Owerri, but died months later from injuries sustained during the robbery.
The CCTV video of the incident has since gone viral. It showed how Iboko shot at the car used by the robbers as soon as they entered the bank premises. Four men armed with AK47 assault rifles emerged from the car shooting indiscriminately and forcing people who were standing at the entrance of the bank to flee.
Shots rang out from the security post at the bank’s entrance, shattering the car windows. An occupant of the car shot back. One of the robbers, who had tried to attack the occupant of the security post, was instantly shot dead.
On Monday, the Owerri branch of Nigerian Bar Association said that it would sue the Nigeria Police Force and Zenith Bank for allegedly abandoning the family of heroic Police Sergeant, Chukwudi Iboko, who died during the February 22, 2017, robbery which took place at the Wetheral Road branch of Zenith bank in Owerri, the Imo State capital.
Sergeant Iboko, who killed one of the four armed robbers in the attack, suffered severe gunshot injuries and died the next day in a police clinic in Owerri after he was allegedly rejected at the Federal Medical Centre, Owerri.
