‘Another character assassination, I wasn’t expelled’ – Jubril Abdulmumin

The suspended member of House of Representatives, Abdulmumin Jibrin, has denied claims that he was expelled from the All Progressives Congress, APC claiming it is character assassination.

He stated this in a press release on his Facebook and Twitter pages shortly after his expulsion was reported.

Mr. Jibrin said the report came from a “dubious character and known fraudster” who is neither an exco of the APC at the local government nor at state level.

“The party is not even aware of this impersonation making the rounds in the media,” he said.

“This is yet another round of character assassinations from career political antagonizers who are perpetually threatened by our advocacy for transparency in public service and political leadership,” the lawmaker said.

He said the report did not originate from his party and affirmed he had a cordial relationship with his party.

“We have been working hand in hand to actualise our agenda for a better Nigeria,” he added.

When contacted, the Kano State APC spokesman, Bashir Karaye, he said he was not aware of the expulsion. “As far as I’m concerned, we are not aware of any expulsion of any member,” he said. “We only saw it on the news” he added.

The APC in Bebeji Local Government Area of Kano State had earlier claimed Mr. Jibrin had been expelled.

The lawmaker, who represents Bebeji Federal Constituency, was suspended from the House for accusing the leadership of the House of budget fraud. The chapter of the party accused Mr. Jibrin of anti-party activities.

Reading the resolution expelling Mr. Jibrin Thursday, the party chairman in the local government, Sani Ranka, told journalists in Kano the party had taken all constitutional steps to make Mr. Jibrin step back from “anti-party activities”, to no avail.

He said the party formed a five-member committee to meet with Mr. Jibrin, but the lawmaker refused to meet the panel.

“Before taking this final decision, we formed a disciplinary five-man committee and they went to him on 11-4-2017, he saw them briefly but without any tangible talks and they went back on 13-4-2017 he then refused to see them,” he said.

Mr. Ranka said after reporting back to the party executives, the party’s caucus agreed to expel Mr. Jibrin from the arty.

The party accused the suspended member of factionalizing the party, creating new unconstitutional leadership, going against the government of Governor Abdullahi Ganduje and indiscipline against the national headquarters of the party and the presidency of Muhammadu Buhari.
