Cultural exchange : Janggu drums bring South Korea, Nigeria together

To harness a healthy cultural exchange between Nigeria and South Korea, one of Nigeria’s finest theatre artists, Isioma Williams has imported the Korean traditional culture of Janggu to Lagos.
The Korean traditional Janggu drums have brought fun and excitement to Nigeria as theatre arts students held a performance tagged ‘Journey of the Janggu Drum to Africa’ in Lagos.

Musician and Janggu instructor, Isioma Williams first fell in love with the traditional Korean hourglass-shaped drum in 2013 when he took part in a Cultural Partnership Initiative at the National Museum of Korea in Seoul.

Since returning to Nigeria, Williams began teaching traditional Janggu drumming techniques.
