John Boyega is set to star in Kathryn Bigelow’s Oscar-buzzed riot drama, Detroit.
The film, which is Bigelow’s first film since Zero Dark Thirty, tells the story of the 1967 Detroit riots, which is one of the most violent revolts in United States history.
The riots began after a police raid on an unlicensed bar. It lasted for five days, leaving 43 dead, more than 7,200 arrested and over 2,000 buildings destroyed. It also highlighted issues at the time like police brutality, segregated housing and schools and thrrising black unemployment that fueled the anger of the rioters.
John Boyega is also co-producing the sequel to Pacific Rim and will reprise his role as Finn in Star Wars, The Last Jedi.
