The Senate has amended the 2010 Electoral Act to allow for the use of electronic voting and devices for the conduct of elections in Nigeria.
This was after the amended law passed third reading at Thursday’s plenary.
Former chairman of the Senate Committee on Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC Abubakar Kyari, said the new law, when assented to by the President will modernize Nigeria’s electoral system.
Among the amended portions of the law is the transmission of electoral results which is now to be done electronically, immediately after collation is done at the ward, local government and state levels.
