Army destroys weapons recovered from youths in Rivers

The Rivers state Governor, Nyesom Wike has reassured repentant cultists that surrendered their arms during the 60 day disarmament window under the state amnesty programme that they would not be prosecuted.

Governor Wike gave the assurance at an exercise organized by the army for the destruction of arms and ammunition recovered from youths across the 23 local government area of the state.

TVC News Edmond Awadje reports that the large cache of arms and ammunition were recovered from repentant militants after the November 15 expiration of the 60 day amnesty programme initiated by the Rivers state government in September 16th last year.

The event is the destruction of the arms recovered Supervised by the Nigerian Ordinance Corps of the army at the Igwuruta shooting range in Ikwere local government area.

Governor Wike in his address noted that the amnesty exercise recorded huge success.

He faulted insinuations that the exercise was politicized re-assuring all repentant militants who submitted their arms
non-prosecution.

The army conducted Governor Wike and his entourage on a tour of various points within the demolition ground.

High point of the event was the lighting up of fire on the incineration of small arms by the governor and detonation of other arms.
