Dickson defends decision to allocate Bayelsa Palm area for grazing

Bayelsa State Governor Seriake Dickson says government’s decision to allocate the Bayelsa Palm area for grazing is to deal with reported cases of cattle encroachment and destruction of farmlands.

The governor explained his action at the monthly media chat in the government house.

The allocation of the 1,200 hectre Bayelsa Palm to herdsmen did not go down well with some people in the State, who have also made known their desire to stage a protest against the state government’s decision.

Expressing concern about reported activities of herdsmen in other states, and in recent times, some communities in Bayelsa, governor Seriake Dickson says the decision was taken to avert any clashes that will lead to a breach of the peace in the state.

Governor Dickson says the state government is planning to have a Police Post at the Bayelsa Palm area for security reasons, while the collection of the data of cattle and their owners has already started.
