TVC E. The Court of Appeal has declared Ali Modu Sheriff as the national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The court sitting in Port-Harcourt, Rivers state, on Friday, February 17 declared the decision taking at the May 21 Port-Harcourt convention of the party as null and void, Tribune reports.
The three judges presiding over the case in a unanimous decision agreed that Modu Sheriff is the chairman of the PDP.
This judgement will bring an end the leadership crisis rocking the main opposition party, as both factional chairmen Senators Ahmed Makarfi and Ali Modu Sheriff, have both laid claim to be the authentic representative of the party.
Prior to the February 17 judgement, both chieftains of the party expressed readiness to abide by the outcome of the Appeal Court verdict with a view to bringing lasting peace in the party.
