The new governing council of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife says it will ensure smooth and stable academic calendar and unite all the warring unions of the institution.
The chairman of the council, Yemi Ogunbiyi stated this on his first official visit to the institution.
Correspondent Ibrahim Alege reports that it’s the first official visit of the new governing council to the campus of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife.
The council was constituted by the federal government after the previous one was dissolved because of crisis that engulfed the institution over the appointment of a new Vice Chancellor.
Professor Anthony Elujoba was appointed as the acting Vice chancellor late last year but the new governing council chairman says the process of appointing a substantive vice chancellor is already on.
He said the new board will guide against industrial disharmony by uniting all the warring unions and also carry out a forensic auditing of the institution’s account
The council is unhappy about the decay in the institution’s infrastructure and promised to address it.
Ogunbiyi also stressed the need for higher institutions in Nigeria to improve on their income generation as well as academic performance and ranking.
