Diego Costa’s hopes of moving to the Chinese Super League have been scuppered after Tianjin Quanjian ended their interest in the Chelsea striker.
Tianji owner Shu Yuhui said his club pulled out after a new restriction on foreign players in the league.
The billionaire claimed the club also backed out of moves for Edinson Cavani, Karim Benzema and Radamel Falcao.
The new rule limits the number of foreign players in matchday squads to allow for development of local talents.
Costa, who has been training alone, was the subject of a 36million dollars-a-year offer from Tianjin.
