TVC E. Montpellier president, Louis Nicollin, has ruled out the possibility of signing Emmanuel Adebayor, saying it will be “daft” to bring in the Togolese striker.

The 32-year-old has been without a club since he left Crystal Palace in June and was previously linked with another Ligue 1 club, Lyon.

Lyon chose not to sign Adebayor as he is likely to be involved in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon – the same reason Nicollin gave for not considering him.

“There was never any question that he would sign for us,” he told RMC.

“Plus, he’s going to play at the Africa Cup of Nations, so it’d be daft.”

Montpellier are only three points above the relegation zone and are still without striker Casimir Ninga, who damaged knee ligaments in October.
