APC, PDP bicker over Fayose’s ‘defection’ plan

The All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State are trading words over alleged plans by Governor Ayo Fayose to quit the PDP.

APC said Fayose’s planned defection was to evade prosecution for alleged crimes, adding that defection would not save the governor.

But PDP reacted, saying Fayose had no intention of joining APC or any other party.

The APC, in a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Taiwo Olatunbosun, wondered why Fayose who calls himself “the Opposition Leader in Nigeria” would contemplate dumping his party in a bid to evade justice.

PDP’s Publicity Secretary Jackson Adebayo said no reasonable Nigerian would join the APC which, according to him, brought Nigeria to its knees with alleged anti-people policies.

Olatunbosun said: “It is an act of insincerity for Fayose, who boasts that he is the leader of opposition, to dump his party for the ruling party, thinking that would save him from prosecution.

“The party he is planning to join is the same party whose members he has clamped in jail on trumped-up charges.

“Sensing that PDP is in the throes of death, he is contemplating dumping the party but there is no place for him in APC as he is only looking for an escape route from prosecution.”

Adebayo said: “It’s only a politician who wants to commit political suicide that would nurse the ambition of defecting to the dying party.

“He is not given to deceit and fake promises which are the hallmark of the APC.

“We want to say without sounding immodest that even if the APC consults the oracle from now till 2018, Fayose will not join because nobody would leave a city for the jungle to search for a mansion.”
