Groups express worry as INEC plans to postpone Rivers rerun poll again

There are fears that the Independent National Electoral Commission may postpone the rerun legislative election in Rivers State.
According to INEC, the polls are billed to take place on December the 10th this year after several cancellations.

But some groups are worried that the elections may not hold on the new date.

TVC News Uche Okoro reports that it is less than one month to the new date fixed by INEC to conclude all  outstanding elections in Rivers State.

However, the Chairman of the Civil Liberties Organization in Rivers State, Sotonye George is one of those who believe that there is the
likelihood of another last minute postponement of the exercise.

But the head of the Niger Delta Civil Society Coalition Anyakwe Nsirimovo has challenged INEC not to bow to any external pressures to scuttle the electoral process.

According to Bristol Alagbariya who is of the Ijaw Youth Congress, IYC, another postponement of the rerun exercise would raise fundamental questions as to how much the federal government policies and legislations are binding on Rivers State.

But despite the anticipated shift of the elections, some of the participating political parties are continuing with their last minute
campaigns to woo voters across the State.
