CJN swears-in two new Justices, harps on Independent Judiciary

Image result for CJN swears-in two new JusticesThe Chief Justice of Nigeria has warned that eroding the independence of the judiciary and undermining its confidence could spell doom for the nation.

Justice Mahmud Mohammed said this at the swearing-in ?ceremony of two new justices, Justice Amina Augie and Justice Ejembi Eko, to the supreme Court.

The CJN harped on the principle of separation of powers and enjoin the other arms of government to adhere to the rules of engagement as stipulated by the Nigerian Constitution.

With calculated calm, they took their seats among other justices of Nigeria’s apex court.

The CJN speaks eloquently on the role of the judiciary in a fledgling democracy as Nigeria’s and says eroding the independence of the third arm of government is dangerous for the country

And reacting to the ongoing investigations of some judges over allegations of corruption, the  CJN reminds the new Justices on the need to uphold public confidence in the judiciary

The new justices replaced the two who attained the mandatory retirement age in October, bringing the Supreme court to its statutory number of seventeen justices.
