60 pct of Nigerian teachers are incompetent : Prof. Okebukola

Stakeholders in the nation’s education sector have been advised to take the matter of teachers education seriously in order to have a better future.

The former Executive Secretary of the National University Commission, Professor Peter Okebukola gave this advise while delivering the 8th Convocation lecture of the Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijagun, Ogun State.

Okebukola who delivered a paper on “bridging the gap between the teacher we have and the teacher we want” said about 60 percent of teachers in the country are grossly incompetent in the subject they are teaching and in the classroom management techniques.

He challenged the management of TASUED to be the first to set up a laboratory that would be called an example of a 21st century classroom where trainee teachers will learn more on how to impact knowledge.
