The House of Representatives has tasked Nigeria’s election management body to carry out a constituency delineation exercise to ensure the sustenance of democracy.
The House says the call became necessary in view of the wide ranging disparities in the current arrangement where some constituencies are as small as one hundred and twenty thousand in population while some are as large as one point three million people.
The lower chamber also worry that Nigeria’s population of about one hundred and eighty million keeps increasing, hence the need for INEC to address the imbalance to avert injustice to some parts of the country.
Representative Shehu Musa is the sponsor of the motion and he says since the 1996 delimitation exercise, there hasn’t been a repeat.
