Plateau State Government bans Shi’ite sect, Jails 44 Members

The Plateau State government, north central Nigeria, has placed a ban on the activities of the Shi’ite Islamic movement following the violent clash on Wednesday between the group and angry youths that resulted in the demolition of the movement’s headquarters in Jos the state capital.
Briefing Journalists on the development, the Plateau state Commissioner of police, Peter Ogunyanwo accused the leadership of the Shi’ite movement of disobeying the order handed to them by the police not to hold processions in any part of the state.

The state police boss also disclosed that 44 members of the Shi’ite movement arrested by the Special Taskforce during the clash have been remanded in prison custody.

He used the medium to admonish citizens of the state to be law abiding and support the force in its bid to rid the state of crime and criminality.
