Adamawa Chief Judge frees 118 Inmates

Chief Judge of Adamawa State, Justice Ishaya Banu has freed 118 inmates standing trial for various offences at the Jimeta Prison, Yola.

Banu explained that the gesture was part of the ongoing prisons decongestion in the state by Jailed Delivery Committee.

Our Correspondent, Owolabi Adenusi who monitored the exercise reports that the Jailed Delivery Committee headed by Adamawa State Chief Judge, Justice Ishaya Banu has released 118 inmates serving various jail terms at the Jimeta prison.

Out of the number, 85 were discharged and acquitted while 33 were given conditional bail.

Banu charged the beneficiaries to henceforth conduct themselves properly.

The Assistant Comptroller of Yola Prison Elson  Bakari applauded the committee, stressing that it was the first time such number of inmates were released.

The spokesperson of the inmates released, Abudulmalik Peter thanked the CJ for the gesture.

Among the fortunate inmates was a tuberculosis patient, Bajauga Zirra standing trial for murdering his wife.

Some of the inmates pardoned who spoke to TVC News thanked the CJ, promising to turn new leaf.

More than 3000 inmates awaiting trials are said to be scattered in different prisons in Adamawa.
