Minister for Trade and Investment, Okechukwu Enelamah is to be investigated by the Senate over allegations bordering on illegal repatriation of funds through one of Nigeria’s telecommunications companies, MTN and four banks to the tune of 13.92 billion dollars.
The resolution was reached after a motion by Senator Dino Melaye accused MTN of conniving with some unpatriotic Nigerians to illegally repatriate the money between 2006 and 2016 in violation of the Foreign Exchange Act.
Enelamah and his company, CELTELCOM Investment Ltd. are alleged to have been involved in the transactions before he became a minister.
The Senate mandated its Committee on Banking, Insurance and Other Financial Institutions to carry out a holistic investigation into the allegations and report back in two weeks.
