“Place a pig on a bed, it will definitely find its way back to the mucky water,” says the popular cliche. This appears to be the case of a 21 year old ex-convict in Abuja.
The 21-years old ex-convict identified as Biola Adewole has returned to jail to serve a six months term after caught stealing a toilet seat in a house in Lugbe, Abuja.
A Lugbe Grade 1 Area Court on Wednesday sentenced Adewole to six months imprison without option of fine for stealing toilet seat.
The Area court judge, Garba Ogbede, sentenced Adewola after he had pleaded guilty on a two-count charge of housebreaking and theft.
“Having evaluated the case in line with evidence before the court, having pleaded guilty to the offence, you are found guilty of the offences of housebreaking and theft.
“You are hereby sentenced to six months in prison without option of fine,’’ the judge held, and said the punishment would serve as deterrent to others.
“You have brought this upon yourself because you wanted fast money. Parents, guardians must watch over their wards.
“They must provide for them to guide against this kind of careless action,’’ he said.
Prosecuting Counsel Aderonke Imana had told the court that the matter was reported by Aminu Taofik of Plot 1125 Zone 7, Lugbe, Abuja, at the Lugbe Police Station, on Aug. 26.
The convict pleaded guilty and begged for leniency, saying, ” I am so sorry for stealing, please sir temper justice with mercy for I just came out of jail”.
The convict was taken to Kuje Prison to serve his term.
