President Muhammadu Buhari has commended the performance of Team Nigeria at the just concluded 2016 Olympic Games despite the country returning with only a bronze medal.
Sports minister, Solomon Dalung revealed this after meeting with the president to brief him on the outcome of Nigeria’s participation at the games.
Dalung said despite the challenges, progress was made as two Nigerian athletes, Aruna Quadri and Chierika Ukogu, were recognized in Rio.
The minister added that he pleaded with President Buhari to host the contingent despite winning only one bronze medal in football.
Dalung, absolved himself from the poor outing of Nigerian athletes,stressing that the “abysmal performance pre-dates his appointment”.
