The African Union commission in partnership with the international committee of the all Africa music awards AFRIMA has announced Lagos state as the host city for the 2016 All Africa Music Awards.
The announcement was made today in Lagos.
In January 2016, the African union identified and nominated four cities in the host country, including Calabar, Port Harcourt and Lagos to present itself for the hosting of the continental music awards, which is having its third edition in Nigeria.
After considerations, Lagos state was chosen ahead of Calabar, Uyo and Port Harcourt cities because of its position as the entertainment capital of Africa.
Commissioner of information, Lagos state, Steve Ayorinde, accepted the hosting rights on behalf of the government. He said it attests to the commitment of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode to promote culture, arts and tourism in Lagos state.
Musician Tuface Idibia congratulated Lagos state and urged All Africans es to support the promotion of African music.
The All Africa music awards comes in November 2016.
