TVC E. New Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr, has failed in his attempts to lure back Vincent Enyeama and Emmanuel Emenike from international retirement.
Enyeama quit the team after falling out with former coach, Sunday Oliseh. Emenike announced his decision without any explanation.
A team official disclosed that: “Enyeama and Emenike have rejected an offer from the new Eagles coach to return to the team for the World Cup qualifiers.
“He was told before hand not to bother because the players have made up their mind not to represent the country, but he still went ahead and spoke to the two players and he got a big no.
“In the case of Enyeama, the coach argued he is one of the best goalkeepers in France and as such everything be done to get him back to the team.”
Rohr will take charge of his first official game against Tanzania next month in Uyo. It is Nigeria’s last group fixture in the 2017 AFCON qualifying series, but will be a mere formality.
The Eagles open their 2018 World Cup qualifiers against Zambia in October 2016.
