Ahead of the November 26, Governorship election in Ondo state, political parties have been advised to shun acts capable of creating unnecessary tension and crisis in the state.
The state Commissioner of Police, Hilda Ibifuro-Harrison gave the advice at a stakeholders meeting held at the Officers mess in Akure, the state capital.
TVC news Ayodeji Moradeyo reports that although the governorship election is four months away, the Ondo State
police command is already bringing leaders of political parties together, to ensure that peace reigns supreme in all the eighteen local government areas of the state.
Present at this stakeholders meeting in Akure, are representatives of different political parties, security agencies, traditional rulers, among others.
The meeting gave the state commissioner of police, Hilda Ibifuro-Harrison opportunity to caution representatives of the political parties on the need to eschew violence.
The police boss who warned political parties to call their members to order, said the command would not tolerate any act of lawlessness.
Ibifuro-Harrison also charged party leaders to sensitise their members on the need to embrace peace.
Representatives of some political parties also stressed the need for the police to be neutral.
The political atmosphere in the state is gradually getting charged as parties are preparing for the governorship primary election between August and September.
