Late Nollywood veteran Bukky Ajayi was born into Christianity on April the 2nd, 1934 in Ibadan, Oyo state capital.
As a child, she would accompany her father with whom she had a close relationship, to the cinemas and this birthed a love for theatre and movies.
Thanks to a Federal Government scholarship in 1959, she studied at the Stanislavsky Drama Institute in London and worked in Pitman’s College, London for a while, before returning to Nigeria in 1965.
The next year, she began working with the Western Nigerian Television (WNTV), which later morphed into the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) as a presentation assistant, then presenter and later a newsreader.
Her first role was in the movie “Village Headmaster” in the 1970’s, and she later got a role in Amaka Igwe’s “Checkmate”. She has since featured in so many home videos.
The young and old movie practitioners described the late Madame Ajayi as a great role interpreter.
Fans of the late actress added that solace should be drawn from the fact that the late actress lived a fulfilled life as a professional and role model to many.
According to the late actress, in a newspaper interview, shooting of international movie, “Critical Assignment” in South Africa, is one events she would never forget.
Bukky Ajayi’s popular movies include Mother of George, Indecent Girl, Diamond Ring, Witches, Thunderbolt among others.
On Saturday, March the 5th, 2016 at the fourth edition of the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards, the veteran received an Industry Merit Award.
A standing ovation greeted the announcement of the 82-year-old actress, who was wheeled to the stage to receive her award which was to be her last public outing.
With a vivacious personality, Bukky Ajayi will forever be missed in Nollywood.
