TVC E. Ike Ekweremadu, Nigeria’s deputy Senate president, has revealed that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is merely wasting it time trying to remove him from office.
Ekweremadu is believed to have been tipped for the vice presidential candidacy of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2019 general election. The APC has also given the impression that it is not happy with the emergence of Ekweremadu as the deputy president of the Senate being from an opposition party.
Senate president Bukola Saraki and Ekweremadu are in court for alleged forgery, but the national chairman of the APC, John Odigie-Oyegun, recently revealed that the major problem was Ekweremadu. Ekweremadu declared on Saturday, July 23 that nobody will remove him from office. The top legislator, who spoke at Ezeagu local government area during the Ikeoha Foundation, Adult Literacy Day and the 2015/2016 scholarship and bursary award in Enugu state, said: “It is not by power, not by might but by the special grace of God. It is not by our trajectory; so, they cannot do anything.”
Ekweremadu also said he would continue to partner with Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi’s administration. He added: “Be assured that we will continue to support you; whoever is your friend will be our friend; whoever is your enemy will have us to contend with.” At the event, Daily Post reports that 30 traditional rulers handed him the Offor staff (a symbol of justice) with a warning that nobody should dare the lawmaker.
“We are telling the whole world that nothing should happen to Ekweremadu. We have given him another Offor today,” Igwe Hafford Agana, one of the traditional rulers, said.
