APC governors move to tackle incessant herdsmen attacks

Herdsmen

Some governors from the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC want all members of the progressives governors forum to engage the Fulani Herdsmen in their respective states.

The governors made their positions known to the public in a communique they issued  at the end of a closed door meeting held in Edo State government house, Benin on Friday night.

Correspondent Carl Ofonye monitored the meeting for TVC News and reports that the progressives governors in attendance at the meeting that began at about 10pm and ended a few minutes after 12 mid night were seven in number.

Six state governors and a deputy governor out of which five were from the northern part of Nigeria and two from the south.

The two governors from the south included the host governor, Adams Oshiomole of Edo State and Rochas Okorocha of Imo state who is also the chairman of progressives governors forum.

At the end of the meeting, a five point communiqué was issued by the Chairman of the progressive governors forum on behalf of those in attendance.

The communiqué borders  on Edo and Ondo states governorship elections and the blood letting that has been going on in the nation for some time now as a result of the activities of  herdsmen.

The communiqué also stressed the need for the progressives governors to revive their lecture series and to equally appeal to the citizens of Nigeria not to lose faith in the Buhari administration.

What was not clear was why most of the governors within the progressives fold were conspicuously absent at this meeting.

But the chairman of the forum who read the communiqué would not entertain question from the media on this or any other issue for that matter.

The poor attendance at this meeting will inevitably send tongues wagging in the coming days among citizens who are likely to think the camp of progressive governors is fractured.
