The dust raised by the Monday verdict of an Abuja high court and the subsequent issuance of certificate of return to Uche Ogah as Abia state governor by the Independent National Electoral Commission is yet to settle in the state.
The judiciary has been urged to quickly as the last hope of the people resolve the crisis rocking the state following development.
TVC News correspondent Nnamdi Ofonye covered the solidarity protest in Umuahia on Friday and reports that the people of the state have vowed to stand by their Governor.
They protesters condemned the hasty manner the said certificate of return was issued by INEC despite being served Governor Okezie Ikpeazu’s notice of appeal and stay of execution.
The protesting crowd vowed to resist any attempt from any quarter to illegally remove their Governor and impose another person on the people of the state.
Governor Ikpeazu commended them for the peaceful manner they conducted themselves throughout their protests.
He condemned the action of INEC which hurriedly issued a certificate of return to Ogah even before the end of the window created by law for filing an appeal.
He denied that he forged his tax clearance insisting that all his taxes were deducted from the source having worked as an appointee within the said period.
While these protests, accusations and counter accusations last, it is hoped that the issue at hand will be resolved quickly in the interest of people of the state.
